Current Uses

Since its creation in 1996, the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority has sold about one-half (1/2) of the original 605 acres at Vint Hill Farms.  There are over sixty (60) businesses in either new or existing buildings.  Some of these are the Inn at Vint Hill ( www.innatvinthill.com)  the Athena Building (designer of navigation systems for unmanned aerial vehicles)  the F.A.A. (Federal Aviation Administration)  the Walnut Grove Child Care Center, and the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation.  The barn complex (23,500 sq.ft.) and the barracks (89,500 sq. ft.) are vacant and are in need of repair and reuse.  The former antennae field remains open and is home to fox, deer, and  small mammals, birds, native plants and two small drainages that are part of the Occoquan watershed.   An artesian well was discovered a few years ago when surveying the property.  Other natural areas around Vint Hill Farms are wetlands, small drainage ponds, the woods, the creek and the walking trails.  Housing units were removed that were deemed unsuitable for reuse.  The sewage treatment plant is undergoing expansion to accommodate the new demand in the New Baltimore Service District and a new water tower has been completed.  The Vint Hill Economic Development Authority currently has approval for the creation of a town centre and a total of three (3) million sq.ft. of commercial space.

Future Uses

The Friends of Vint Hill Farms propose to return ownership of the former military base back to Fauquier County for use by local county students, residents, and visitors.  The existing buildings that are currently not in use would be remodeled with green technology.  The barn complex has agricultural and military history worthy of a living history museum to showcase Fauquier County's contributions in these areas.  The land is a natural area for use as an education and research station for such programs as water and soil conservation, reduce, reuse and recycle programs and generation of alternative technologies.  Vint Hill has several large flat black roofs for solar energy, wind power potential and space for geothermal energy.  We are in favor of retaining much of the land in Open Space, as well as being within an historic district that reflects Vint Hill Farms' Native American history (its eastern border is the Carolina Trail), its agricultural history and its military history.  Vint Hill Farms would be financially supported by school and county programs, community events, federal and state grants and contributions.
